Subalpine Fir is a coniferous evergreen with a tall, narrow cone-shaped crown. It Grows at high altitude interior mountainous forests in western North America from the Yukon, south to New Mexico. Needles have a nice green to bluish tint and are glaucous. The bark is smooth and gray with horizontal resin blisters when young, becoming broken with fissures with age. The cones stand upright and purple, located at the top of the tree. Subalpine Fir can grow medium to large in size, is short lived tree very shade tolerant.
