Canada mint is a low but upright, spreading perennial herb native to North America and Asia. Found growing wild along riverbanks, ponds, or in wet areas; it forms mats of dark green, often with tinted purplish stems, leaf veins, or leaf margins. Clusters of small light blueish to purplish flowers appear in late summer.
The therapeutic fragrance is unmistakable, Canada mint is unsurprisingly an important essential oil and medicinal herb. Traditionally, wild mint has been used around the world to stimulate circulation, aid in digestion, and help relieve cold and flu symptoms.
